75% of the indigenous population in Guatemala cannot read. We understand that without an education, a child’s opportunities are limited. The teachers who work with the Open Door Library not only teach students to read, but also to enjoy learning. All the activities in the library are free.

GROUP VISITS: Classes from local schools are welcome to visit the library for story hour where they can listen to stories, sing songs, and participate in art activities.

READING CLUB: A program designed for older elementary school students to enhance their critical thinking skills, to apply literature to their own lives, and to enjoy a good story in a comfortable environment.

INVESTIGATION: The library is open for research and homework help.

SATURDAY CREATIVITY AND LITERATURE WORKSHOPS: The library hosts creativity workshops to explore diverse themes such as art, culture, expression and music.

EARLY STIMULATION CLASSES: The Library hosts weekly classes for toddlers and their mothers. Children gather for creative play, story hour, and early childhood stimulation.

ADULT LITERACY CLASSES: The Library offers classes for adults who desire to learn to read, write, and improve their Spanish communication skills.
