OUR PURPOSE
The Biblioteca Puerta Abierta has created a safe environment for students to explore reading and to receive academic help with their studies. By providing story hours, reading clubs, and creativity workshops we have begun to plant the seeds in cultivating a culture of reading. We lend books to students who have never held a storybook in their hands before, giving them the opportunity to loose themselves in a story for the first time. |

| The Biblioteca Puerta Abierta understands that families in Santiago do not have the economic means to purchase educational books for their children. We have “opened our doors” to the public and have invited students of all ages to use our library as a learning center, a place where they can receive home-work help, research a topic for a school report, or simply explore. |

In addition to serving the public as a library, La Biblioteca Puerta Abierta has evolved into a true community center, a space where local scholarship groups gather, where mothers bring their toddlers for games and activities, and where teachers meet.
